You think 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts every single day, and 90% of those thoughts are the same thoughts as the day before.” This quote is from Dr. Joe Dispenza.
60 to 70 thousand thoughts every single day! That’s us, Mamas, with thoughts going a mile a minute from the moment the alarm wakes us up to when we finally lay our heads on our pillows at night.
But 90% of those thoughts are the same thoughts as the day before.
What you thought yesterday could still be holding you back today. Or what you thought yesterday is what’s empowering you and helping you to thrive today. I sure hope it’s the last one.
But wait! Do you actually KNOW what you are thinking? Do you know that you don’t have to BELIEVE everything you think?
I know that you are doing all the things. There is like a gazillion things to do in a day. Nursing a baby. Stepping on Legos. Trying to get the homeschooling done.
Tidying the house all over again. Keeping the peace. Running to all the kids’ activities. What’s for dinner again? There isn’t a moment for yourself. I understand. I’m right there with you.
But you need to stop and take INVENTORY of all of the thoughts you are thinking. You’ve got to pay attention to them. Or you will still be in the same place with the same mindset telling yourself the same story day after day, one year from now, even five years from now. Is that what you want?
As a man thinks so is he. Proverbs 23:7
Out of the heart a mouth speaks. Luke 6:45
Death and life are in the power of your tongue. Proverbs 18:21
Joy, peace, rest even in your work, contentment, and victory come and can stay even in the midst of all the things you do in a day (1) when you know what you are thinking and (2) and when you choose to renew those thoughts.
If you are willing to do the work of taking inventory of your thoughts, download my free What’s In Your Word Bank? guide. In it, you will write down your thoughts and then step back to observe any patterns or repeated thoughts or any critical or negative thinking so that you can guide your thoughts to a better place.

It only takes a second for you to
- Think a thought,
- STOP! As if you see a big, red stop sign.
- Acknowledge your thought – Feel the stress, tiredness, pressure, disappointment, frustration, unmet expectations, or overwhelm….whatever it is.
- Acknowledge the trigger – What sets you off? It may be more than the kids or your spouse.
- Ask yourself, “What do I do about this thought? Is it true? Or is it a lie?”
Ask yourself, “Is this thought right? Is it loving? Does it extend grace to me, to my children, my spouse, or my colleague?”
“Should I keep thinking it? Or is there a truth here I need to be speaking instead? Do I need a better perspective here?”
Remember that you are in the driver’s seat of your thoughts instead of them flying right past you. Make the conscious decision: “I don’t want to keep thinking this thought. It will not help me right now. I don’t have to believe everything I think.” And then move your thoughts to a better direction by speaking life.
Before you go, what is one thing that you think over and over again but you now choose to speak what God says about it? Tell me the thought you are kicking out and the truth you are letting stay and take root in you. I’d love to hear from you.
